Alameda Health System, formerly known as Alameda County Medical Center, is based in Oakland, California. It operates out of five hospitals; Alameda Hospital, San Leandro Hospital, Fairmont Hospital, John George Psychiatric Hospital, and Highland Hospital.
The breach was a leak of thousands of patients’ personal information. The hacker accessed social security numbers, names, patient IDs, birth dates, driver’s license numbers, and health insurance information.
The breach was most likely a phishing attack, discovered when the hospital noted suspicious activity in its employee emails. It immediately began an investigation and found the affected information pertained to tens of thousands of systems. The hospital started sending out notification letters on June 24th, 2022.
This breach occurred between May 2020 and March 2022.
The breach impacts certain Alameda patients. Knowing that the hacker has access to sensitive information, there are a few steps that the victims of this – or any other – breach should take. Some software titles will monitor and protect your device, and programs that will monitor your credit scores and protect you from identity thieves. These things will come in very handy for anyone affected by the breach.
Alameda Health System sent out notification letters to over 90,000 affected individuals. There are certain things that the victims are entitled to based on California laws. Find out more about what the law says Californians are entitled to with Legal Scoops.
