Raychat is a communications app based out of Iran. It allows businesses to communicate with their customers and provide them with stellar customer service.
Raychat, a company with a popular app used mainly in the Middle East, was hacked late last year. It appears that the hacker responsible for the attack obtained access to the company's system back at the start of 2021, setting the stage for leaking files.
Raychat misconfigured its server, allowing the hacker to access the company's data. All in all, the database accessed by the hacker contains nearly 300 million accounts. A supposed threat actor subsequently took to the hacking forum dubbed "Raid" to claim responsibility for the infiltration and data leak. The message board contributor insists the data was downloaded in its entirety.
This breach occurred on January 31, 2021.
The breach impacts Raychat users. More specifically, those who use the Raychat app have been compromised in the attack. Raychat users are encouraged to be on the lookout for phishing scams, phony emails from criminals posing as legitimate people, and SMSishing attacks with the potential to plant malware that ruins a smartphone.
A total of 150 million user files were leaked in the attack. The files stolen in the attack include information ranging from passwords to identification for login, email addresses, full names, IP addresses, and more.
