Sharp HealthCare is the largest health provider in the San Diego area, taking care of patients throughout the area. This huge medical provider is behind many hospitals and smaller walk-in facilities. Sharp HealthCare recently suffered from a data breach that released data on many of its patients.
The Sharp data breach occurred when one or more hackers began working to break into the data network. Once in the network, the attackers began gathering any information available. Fortunately, the information that was available wasn't substantial or harmful.
This data breach occurred in February 2023. The attackers gained entry into the network and then were quickly blocked out. During the attack, they were able to gather a small amount of data and look through many documents, but the attackers did not cause serious harm to the file network.
The Sharp HealthCare data breach impacts patients of the company. If you are a patient of the company, or you were in the past, some of your data may have been leaked in the attack. Fortunately, it doesn't appear that any serious harm will come from the data leaked and you likely don't have to worry about fraud or identity theft.
Approximately 62,777 patients were impacted by this breach, but none of them suffered losses of Social Security numbers or any private information. It's likely that thousands of files were accessed in the breach, but we don't have a specific count.
