Carvin Software Suffered Data Breach

Carvin Software is a massive company based in Gilbert, Arizona. The company creates specialized software solutions for business owners and individuals throughout the country. Carvin specializes in construction software but offers staffing solutions and other types of software services as well. A large variety of companies work with this organization, including Apple Staffing, Ace Personnel, Labor Force, and more. The company generated more than $5 million in annual revenue and was hit by a data breach that could cause personal and financial data to be released to the general public in a problematic way.

How Did the Attack Occur?

Carvin Software was hit by a data attack from a single hacker that was able to breach the company's file network and begin accessing confidential files. Once inside the file systems, the attackers began copying secure data and saving it for harmful uses. After the attack, the hackers were prepared for identity theft attacks. It's believed that the data breach started on February 22, 2023, and that it continued until after March 9, 2023. During the several weeks the breach was going on, countless documents were likely stolen from the server, and many people were put at risk.

What Information Was Viewed or Stolen?

We don't know the full extent of the data stolen in this breach, but we do know that Social Security numbers, first and last names, and financial account details were all lost to the data breach. These personal data losses require Carvin to inform anyone that might be involved in this breach that they are at risk. That's why the company is already sending out personalized letters explaining to everyone involved that they may be exposed to this breach and that they should take action to protect themselves.

How Did Carvin Software Admit to the Breach?

Carvin Software filed a document with the Maine Attorney General on May 2, 2023. This file explains when and how the company was attacked by a data breach and also how many people are at risk because of the breach. Carvin began sending out personal letters informing everyone they are at risk because of this breach.

What Will Become of the Stolen Information?

While there is no way of knowing what the data will be used for, it's likely the information will be used to open fraudulent accounts and complete identity theft. Some people could also suffer from phishing attacks because of the information that was stolen in this data breach. It's possible the data will be resold as a list to other attackers as well that will use it for other purposes.

What Should Affected Parties Do in the Aftermath of the Breach?

If you receive a document telling you about this data breach, you should take action quickly to protect yourself. Start by canceling or replacing any card attached to the financial account you used with Carvin. You should also monitor your bank account closely for any fraudulent transactions to help you protect yourself.

You may want to also consider closing your bank account if you begin having major issues, but you likely only need to monitor your credit. Along with monitoring your bank, you should get identity theft monitoring services to watch your credit, too. Taking these actions will help to safeguard you from most fraud-related issues that could be caused by this data breach.
