CommScope is a massive tech company with more than 30,000 employees. The organization works with companies around the world and helps to establish network infrastructure systems for hospitals, schools, federal agencies, and more. CommScope is based out of Hickory, North Carolina, and has been in business since 1976. The massive company has an annual revenue of 9.23 billion USD and manages substantial networks for businesses throughout the United States. This massive company houses data for countless individuals and also maintains a variety of proprietary data pieces. This data is all at risk because of a recent ransomware attack on the company.

How Did the Attack Occur?

CommScope was hit by a data breach attack conducted by a hacker group called Vice Society. The group leveled a serious attack against the company, stole loads of data, and published it on its leaked data site on the dark web. The group hit CommScope in April and threatened to release important data if a ransom wasn't paid. The attack is a serious issue that is putting the company at risk, and that could harm company employees in the process.

What Information Was Viewed or Stolen?

The majority of the data stolen from CommScope is in the form of company-specific documents, including corporate databases, invoices, technical drawings, and designs. These documents would be harmful to the company if given out to other companies. It would be possible to obtain information about the company's technology by exploring the different documents taken from CommScope's data servers. Some of the data taken was personal information about employees. There was enough data taken about employees to put them at risk of an identity theft attack.

How Did CommScope Admit to the Breach?

In the middle of April 2023, CommScope admitted to TechCrunch that it was hit by a ransomware attack and that a significant amount of the company was taken by the attackers. Although the specific documents haven't been outlined, CommScope gave a general outline of what sort of data was taken by the attackers. In the outline, the company explained that most of the data were company files and proprietary information, but eventually, CommScope admitted that some employee data may have been involved.

What Will Become of the Stolen Information?

The hackers are threatening to publish proprietary data online if CommScope doesn't pay the demanded ransom amount. Some of the published information might also be personal data about company employees. CommScope has admitted that some of the information lost to the data breach was personal employee information.

What Should Affected Parties Do in the Aftermath of the Breach?

If your information was potentially exposed by this CommScope data breach, you should carefully monitor your credit for any strange activity. Look for changes on your credit report that you weren't expecting. These changes may indicate fraudulent activity. To protect yourself effectively, you can invest in a credit monitoring service. Monitor your credit for potential problems, and you have a warning system to inform you of any impending problems.
