Major companies have suffered serious data breaches this week, and even the city of Dallas, Texas, was hacked and damaged by data attacks that could expose a significant number of people, making it clear that everyone is at risk when it comes to identity theft and data attacks specifically. Huge mental health organizations like Brightline and Mcpherson Hospital exposed confidential patient data, and even the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City was the target of a breach attack this week.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to predict where hackers will target next and every major organization should take immediate action to protect themselves to guard their customers and employees from harmful data losses. See the rest of this recap to learn specifics about each of the businesses targeted and to find out if you are at risk.

Brightline

Brightline is a virtual therapy program that works with hundreds of thousands of patients from around the world. This program stores data about patients it helps and uses that data to deliver excellent mental health care. The service was another business that suffered from the attacks on GoAnywhere, Fortra's secure file transfer service. Since the file transfer tool was attacked, data from more than 780,000 Brightline patients were exposed, which could lead to phishing attacks and potential identity theft issues.

Dallas Texas Government

The city of Dallas, Texas, is the ninth largest city in the United States, with over 2.6 million residents. Dallas was blasted with a data breach that took down IT services and file systems throughout the city. The most important services impacted were the police service and the court system. The attackers that hit Dallas slowed down public services throughout the week and left many local Dallas residents without protection and service. If you are a Dallas resident, your data may have been exposed as well.

The Metropolitan Opera House

The Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, also known as The Met, was attacked by a group of hackers that led to the breach of substantial patron data such as Social Security numbers, financial information, tax numbers, driver's license numbers, and much more. Any show attendees could have been hit by this breach and might be at risk of being hit by identity theft and other information-based attacks.

McPherson Hospital

This week McPherson Hospital admitted that it was hit by a major data breach. This Kansas-based hospital offers care to tens of thousands of patients annually, and many of those patients have been exposed because of this breach. The medical and personal data of more than 19,000 patients were released in this breach, and patients are encouraged to take steps to secure and protect their data.

Carvin Software

Between February 22 and March 9, 2023, Carvin Software suffered a serious data breach that exposed personal and financial data for more than 180,000 of the company's customers. The breach occurred rapidly, and it could lead to major identity theft issues. Carvin Software is a specialized software services supplier that works with major companies from around the country today.
