Both Cognizant and TMG Health are IT service companies that contract with major organizations to provide the services they need. Cognizant works with Fortune 1,000 companies in the US and TMG Health works with hospitals, insurance companies, and even many of the Medicaid and Medicare government services. A serious data breach with Cognizant and TMG Health will put many customers and employees at risk.
A ransomware gang was able to gain access to Cognizant's company files in this data breach. During the breach, a huge number of files were copied and kept for later use. These files contained a significant amount of medical data and personally identifiable information (PII).
The Cognizant data breach began on May 30 and continued until June 3, 2023. During that period a substantial number of files were taken and many people had their personal and medical data exposed.
The Cognizant and TMG Health breach impacts employees and customers of major corporations that rely on services provided by Cognizant. Companies like Metropolitan Life Insurance, The Dun and Bradstreet Corporation, and AC Nielsen could all be involved in this breach. The breach also has the potential to impact Medicaid Part D programs, Medicare Advantage, and Managed Medicaid programs as well.
We don't know the Cognizant file count involved in this breach. We suspect thousands of documents were involved in the breach, but there isn't a count for us to use.
