How Did the Breach Occur?
CoxHealth relies on a third-party service provider known as IntelliHartx LLC for many of its IT services. That company relied on Forta's Go Anywhere file transfer tool to securely move documents and other files from one location to another. The Go Anywhere file transfer tool recently suffered from a series of harmful data breaches, and IntelliHartx LLC was one of the companies impacted. When this company was hit, patient information for individuals using CoxHealth was exposed.
When Did This Breach Occur?
This breach took place in April and May of 2023. During this time, transferred files were being captured by attackers in an effort to gain useful data. A significant amount of personal and health information was taken during the attacks.
Who Does the Breach Impact?
Over 203,000 patients in the Ozarks and surrounding areas were impacted by this breach. Each of the affected individuals will receive a letter confirming their data may have been exposed. Anyone that receives a notice should leverage credit monitoring services to protect themselves as soon as possible.
