How Did the Breach Occur?

The Dish Network data breach occurred when a hacker gang broke into the Dish file server and encrypted key company data. Once the data was encrypted, the Dish service was interrupted, and customers suffered problems with their video streams. It took several days for Dish to resolve the issues enough to restore service to customers, and we don't know if the company paid the attackers or not.
