Intellihartx is a large patient payment and collections company that works with hospitals, private practices, and many other medical facilities throughout Tennessee and in other states. The company maintains information for hundreds of thousands of different patients, and nearly 500,000 patients had their data exposed because of a recent breach. This is a major problem that could leave these patients with their information online.
This Intellihartx breach occurred just like the hundreds of others through an issue with Fortra's GoAnywhere secure file-sharing tool. The product is designed to send files securely, but it can be hacked by ransomware gangs, and hundreds of companies have lost valuable information because of this one file-sharing tool. Intellihartx lost a significant amount of data quickly because it relies on GoAnywhere.
We don't know exactly when the breach occurred, but we suspect it happened sometime in May 2023. During that month, many other companies were also breached and lost serious data to the same ransomware gang. We have no way of knowing exactly when the breach occurred, but reports have been going out since early June because of this breach.
Nearly 500,000 patients whose data was stored in Intellihartx servers were lost to the attackers that launched the ransomware attack on the company. All these different people are now open to an attack, and they could be exposed to serious credit and financial problems because of the breach.
We have no idea how many files were involved with this Intellihartx breach. We know that hundreds of thousands of patients were impacted, and so it's likely that tens of thousands of files, if not more, were taken during the attack.
