Liberty Counsel is a pro-Trump organization and supporter of right-wing political causes. They will engage in litigation based on protecting evangelical Christian beliefs and values.
Liberty Counsel was targeted by hackers this past summer. The organization’s pro-Trump election message was highlighted in the breach. Here's a recap of the digital intrusion that reinforces the need for regular identity theft protection security updates.
The Liberty Counsel website and emails were hacked. The digital thieves responsible for the breach obtained data from the company's site and internal messages, including correspondence transmitted to its supporters.
How the hackers accessed the Christian organization's internal systems is unclear. The hackers might have exploited digital security flaws within the group's customer relationship management (CRM) software, as similar organizations were also compromised in recent hacks by CRM exploitation.
This breach occurred in June 2022.
The breach impacts Liberty Counsel as well as political donors to the organization. The stolen data was subsequently published on Enlance Hacktivista, a website that chronicles online intrusions and theft.
The breach exposed an internal database consisting of 25 gigabytes of information. In total, the stolen data contained more than six years of information about political donations. It is worth noting that some Liberty Counsel donors made financial contributions to the politically conservative organization through their official government email accounts. Email addresses tied to Veterans Affairs, Transportation, Treasury, State, Justice, Interior, and even Homeland Security were included in the stolen database of donors.
