The Medical Review Institute of America “delivers technology-enabled review services that increase member satisfaction.” They have hundreds of clients around the world.
The breach was a leak of patient information. The hacker released the patients’ names, social security numbers, genders, insurance information, birthdays, physical addresses, diagnoses, lab test results, medical history, medical conditions, prescriptions, bank information, phone numbers, account numbers, and emails.
The method of the breach is still unknown at this time. The MRIoA is working with third-party security firms to ensure the safety of everyone involved. MRIoA announced it had retrieved all the data from the bad actor and that the thief deleted the information on their end.
This breach occurred on November 9th, 2021.
At the time of writing, it seems as if the breach impacts all of the MRIoA’s clients. This is only a few hundred people, but identity theft could easily disrupt their lives because of the violation. With the card, license, and health insurance information leaked, the hacker can quickly steal these people’s identities, throwing their lives and futures into disarray.
The breach affected an undisclosed amount of files, so we aren’t sure of the exact number of affected individuals. We hope that anyone affected by the leak takes the necessary steps to protect themselves and their loved ones.
